“Illuminate has revived the bandshell in Golden Gate Park.”

Bringing the power of live performance into the heart of the park:

The revived Spreckels Temple of Music was set to be unveiled by Illuminate on April 4 but was put on hold pending the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions. A soft opening was held on October 21 and the visuals and acoustics proved extraordinary. A formal unveiling will be scheduled when it is deemed safe.

Originally planned as a centerpiece of Golden Gate Park’s 150th anniversary celebration, the renovation features a new, fully accessible stage, world-class professional lighting, and a state-of-the-art sound system. It promises to bring new vibrancy and radical accessibility to this historic performance space, which is located between the de Young Museum and the Academy of Sciences. Led by key donors Carla and David Crane, and in conjunction with the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department and the San Francisco Parks Alliance, the revived bandshell will directly touch the lives of millions of park-goers.
