Principle 3: Live or Die with Integrity

Never compromise for corporate dollars, even if that means failing.

In a culture built on sponsorships, branding, and naming rights, this principle may sound extreme. But for us, it’s essential.

To live or die with integrity means putting the soul of the work before its survival.
If a project can only move forward by compromising its values, we will walk away.

We don’t sell naming rights.
We don’t plaster logos on public space.
We don’t adjust our message to suit a funder’s preference.

We don’t monetize eyeballs.
We don’t sell lists.
We ask nothing of you—
other than the occasional gift of your attention.

At the heart of our work is a deeper why:
We serve the people of San Francisco.
We protect the soul of the public realm.
We believe awe is a public good—something that belongs to everyone.

We’ve turned down millions of dollars to protect that belief.
Which is why you’ll never see an ad on the Bay Bridge.

Eschewing easy money makes space for something rarer—
Deeper, more generous, ego-free collaboration.
Not: what can we extract?
But: what can we create—together?

Integrity is our guardrail.
It protects the sanctity of public space.
It keeps the art sacred.
It keeps our relationships real.

And yes, we’ve failed before.
But we’ve never betrayed the mission.

Because in the City of Awe, trust is our currency.
And once that’s lost, nothing else we build matters.
