For the past 24 years a team of volunteers has graced the Bay Area with an extraordinary – and important – symbol of resilience and hope. Each June they gathered on Twin Peaks to assemble the beloved Pink Triangle, which sat majestically above the massive SF Pride celebration below.
But this year the Triangle is in peril. Social distancing restrictions will prevent volunteers from gathering. The canvas triangle will not be laid out. And with all SF Pride events going virtual, this symbol is needed now more than ever.
We’re announcing that Illuminate is partnering with Triangle founder Patrick Carney to Illuminate the Pink Triangle.
Using more than 2,700 LED nodes, which will be installed safely by a small team of volunteers, an acre of glorious pink light will form a vibrant, mesmerizing triangle on Twin Peaks – making it more visible than ever.
We’ve created a GoFundMe page to raise the $85,000 needed for this effort. A global grand lighting is scheduled for June 27. For more information on the project, visit the Illuminate the Pink Triangle website.
A gift of any size brings us closer to that magical moment when we can all come together — even if we’re physically apart — and observe the global grand lighting of this beloved symbol.
All donations are 100% tax-deductible, go to SF Pride’s Pink Triangle account and will be used exclusively to Illuminate the Pink Triangle.
