Monumental Reckoning 2024

June 19, 2024
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Music Concourse

Golden Gate Park
San Francisco, CA 94118

In honor of Juneteenth, we are hosting a special Monumental Reckoning ceremony on Wednesday, June 19 from 1 to 2 pm It will take place at the site of the former statue of Francis Scott Key in the Golden Gate Park Music Concourse where the Monumental Reckoning art figures stood from 2021 to 2024. The art figures represented the first Africans stolen from their homeland and sold into chattel slavery in 1619. The 350 “Ancestors” encircled the vacant plinth of the slaveholder Francis Scott Key.

This year, the organizers are looking for volunteers to be one of the 350+ Black women who will surround the empty plinth area for the event. All Black women are welcome, including trans women, as well as non-binary and gender fluid people. The time commitment for this volunteer role is from 12pm to 2 pm that day.

Additionally, all allies are welcome to experience and witness this historic event. Click here for more information and to volunteer.
