This is it. The historic moment we’ve all been waiting for. The Bay Lights return in grand style this Saturday night with a major public celebration along the San Francisco waterfront. The celebration includes a live TV broadcast on KPIX TV complete with a major fireworks show.

There are three great ways you can participate. We recommend all three!

1. Come out on Saturday, January 30th, and enjoy all San Francisco has to offer. Super Bowl City will open in Justin Herman Plaza at 11am. Experience all of the free family festivities, which includes interactive demonstrations and live concerts. Then, stay for the Grand Relighting of The Bay Lights at 7:25pm sharp. The Macy’s fireworks show will follow. If you can come, we highly encourage public transit. And if you can’t make it, tune into KPIX at 7pm for the live broadcast.

2. Watch IMPOSSIBLE LIGHT, the Northern California Emmy Nominated documentary by independent filmmaker Jeremy Ambers. For a limited time, you can view this compelling feature length film FREE on KQED’s YouTube channel. It is a great way to understand the behind the scenes struggles required to make the artwork a reality.

3. Download the Track Your Happiness app and directly participate in a social science experiment in partnership with ILLUMINATE, the UC Berkeley Social Interaction Lab and the UC Irvine Social Cohesion Lab.

We are launching a scientific study of how people like you experience The Bay Lights. Signing up is free and completely voluntary. If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area and are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please visit https://www.trackyourhappiness.org/ and download the app where you can track your happiness and find out what factors — for you personally — are associated with greater happiness. You’ll also contribute to the scientific understanding of public art and happiness.

Thank you for all your love and support. We look forward to celebrating the historic Grand Relighting moment with you.
