The Bay Lights Are Returning

We’re happy to share some long-awaited news:
Installation of The Bay Lights has officially resumed.
After a great deal of behind-the-scenes work, crews are now back on the Bay Bridge nightly, installing equipment and preparing the system that will once again transform the western span into a living work of light.
Over the past months, Illuminate has been working closely with an extensive team of engineers, installers, and advisors to ensure that this new installation is built to perform reliably over time in the challenging conditions of the Bay Bridge—wind, salt air, weather, and constant exposure.
What’s happening now:
- Installation crews are on the bridge nightly
- Testing by artist Leo Villareal will begin in the new year as systems come online
- Weather—especially January rain—will continue to influence the pace of work
If conditions cooperate, we are anticipating a grand relighting ceremony in March, with a specific date to be announced once timing and weather are more clear.
As news about the project begins to circulate in the media, we wanted to share this update directly with our community and keep you informed as the work continues.
Thank you for being part of Illuminate and for believing in the power of public art to bring people together. We can’t wait to share more as the light returns.
With gratitude,
Ben and David
